Expert system methodology for deterioration of reinforced concrete structures

Structural engineers involved in the repair and maintenance of reinforced concrete structures need to diagnose the types of deterioration encountered in reinforced concrete in order to provide appropriate decisions regarding remedial measures. Knowledge-based expert systems established means by which one can use computers to solve ill-structured problems, such as the assessment of distressed reinforced concrete structures. This paper describes the development methodology of a prototype knowledge-based expert system for providing advice related to common distress problems in reinforced concrete structures. System development is presented, and followed by appropriate conclusions.
