Abstract

A theoretically based procedure is presented in this paper to construct site response spectra based on the soil profile and the assumed bedrock response spectrum. The procedure consists of two stages : the prediction of the site natural period followed by the prediction of the peak spectral acceleration together with the construction of the response spectrum. The effect of the “Period Shift” due to non-linear behaviour of the soil, and the relationship between shear strain and damping has been taken into consideration.
