Abstract

Australia’s political linkages have, in the past, influenced profoundly the setting of regulations, standards and codes used by designers and builders. New situations in the international political arena and significantly changed commercial relationships now call for a reappraisal of the technological expressions of those relationships. One form of those expressions is the writing of regulations and codes for design. Progress has been made in Australasia because of the policy of Closer Economic Relations (CER) so there is scope for greater harmony in the APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) region.
