Abstract

The Akita Shinkansen Line will provide faster transportation, without changing at Morioka, between Tokyo and Akita (a local city on the Japan Sea side). Test runs for starting operation in March 1997 are now being made. In the Morioka approach that makes up part of the structure of the Akita Shinkansen near Morioka Sta., Geotextile-Reinforced Soil (GRS) with retaining walls on both sides, under the slab track area with a sharp curve and a steep grade is being used, in consideration of the construction period, space and other constraints.
