Stability analysis for consolidation and dynamic response of mine tailing dam
Abstract
Stability and liquefaction analysis of a mine tailing dam are performed using a computer (finite element) procedure including effect of consolidation in tailings and earthquake loads. It was found that for realistic predictions, it is necessary to include nonlinear (elastic-plastic) behavior of materials. The computer predictions in terms of stresses, displacements and pore water pressures show realistic trends, and the computed flow quantity compare well with that measured in the field. The procedure used here can provide realistic and improved analysis of stability and safety of geotechnical systems, including dams.
