Abstract

Annually in the United States 90 millions tons fly ash is produced; the bulk of which ends up being landfilled. Pennsylvania alone generates nearly 11% of the national total. Through cooperative interaction between state agencies, industry and the university community, innovative large volume uses of fly ash in mineland reclamation have been and are being demonstrated that will both benefit the Commonwelath by reclaiming hazardous pre-act mineland, correcting AMD and removing millions of tons of materials from entering Pennsylvania landfills. In 1995 it was estimated that 67% of the fly ash produced in Pennsylvania was utilized.
