Depth perception with remote sensing data
Abstract
Depth perception, as part of data fusion, is a sophisticated process which actively combines physiological and psychological cues with a mental model. Little is known of how these cues are combined in our brain. A large part of depth perception is thus not completely understood. Furthermore, viewing radar data in stereo is then sometimes more difficult than optical data since it is not as natural. This paper presents some basic aspects of visual mechanisms to better understand depth perception with remote sensing data, and some thoughts about its applicability to radar data, and especially with RADARSAT.
