Abstract

Physicochemical properties of polymeric solids strongly depend on the states of aggregation structure and thermal molecular motion. The glass transition behavior of copolymers is related to the chemical structures and sequence distributions of monomers in copolymers. The theories of diad model 1 ) have been applied to describe the composition dependence of T g for random copolymers. S. Teramachi et al . (3217, E846) studied the relationships between the glass transition temperature, T g and composition of styrene(St)-methacrylate random copolymers prepared by a free radical copolymerization. The relationship between T g and diad sequence of the St/ t -butyl methacrylate ( t BMA) copolymers followed the diad model theory. However, in the case of St/ n -butylinethacrylate ( n BMA) and St/ i -butyl methacrylate ( i BMA) copolymers, the diad model could not be applied.
