Impact of sediment movement on the water quality of Three Gorge Reservoir
Abstract
Field observed data shows that the impact of sediment movement on water quality can not be ignored. This paper gives a special consideration, with the special case of Three Gorge Reservoir as a background. Based on the analysis of mass equilibrium of pollutants, a basic equation sets reflecting the function of sediment transport and bed erosion is deduced. Observation in flood season shows that the sediment transport plays an important role on the pollutant movement. The data analysis shows that water quality indexes variation can not be explained if the impact of sediment transport haven’t be reasonably considered. Some data has been collected to build a calculating mode on the exchange between the sediment particles and pollutants. Adaptation of the mode on a one dimensional numerical model has been discussed.
