Abstract

Transport-transformation of pollutants, such as heavy metals, toxic organic matter, nutrient, oil, etc., is closely related to sediment motion. The study on correlation among pollutants, water and sediment has particular significance. In this paper the adsorption-desorption of heavy metal pollutants, organic matter and nutrient by sediment is discussed and data obtained in China are analyzed. Transfer of sediment motion related pollutants in aquatic environment exhibits convective-diffusive law of common tracers and characteristics of transport-transformati on induced by sediment motion. Integrating the research results in environmental chemistry and those in sediment motion will greatly promote the development and application of this science.
