Invited lecture: The influence of fine sediments on water quality
Abstract
The transport in suspension, settlement, consolidation and re-erosion of clay flocs (mud) and organic matter has an important influence on water quality, eutrophication and the dispersal of adsorbed micropollutants in a wide range of situations. The paper reviews the main processes by which fine sediments affect water quality by reference to practical case studies. The summarised conclusions are designed to aid those responsible for protecting or modelling the aquatic environment.
