Abstract

In this paper, a contaminant transport model was developed for modeling of transport and fate of radionuclides and various hazardous substances in stream and river systems. The model includes the sediment-contaminant interaction and transient storage in addition to various physical and chemical processes. Compared to other sediment-contaminant transport models, the main feature of the proposed model is to integrate the transient storage and related physical and chemical processes into the model in order to simulate contaminant fate and transport more accurately. In the model, all governing equations are written in the conservative form and an efficient algorithm was proposed for the solution of the model. A real case study is solved to show the validation and accuracy of the proposed model.
