Numerical simulations of a jet in a wave-induced oscillatory flow
Abstract
This paper outlines a full three-dimensional numerical simulation of a round turbulent jet discharged into a wave-induced oscillatory flow field. These calculations have been achieved within a commercially available computational fluid dynamics code (FLUENT), and are based upon a standard k-ε turbulence model in which the empirical coefficients were identical to those originally proposed by Rodi (1991) . The numerical scheme employs a finite volume formulation, and the results are shown to be in good general agreement with laboratory data. In particular, the near-field mixing processes and the importance of the vortex structure are clearly identified.
