Abstract

An experimental system is developed that allows the simultaneous measurements of velocities and concentrations within a study area using the techniques of Digital Particle Image Velocimetry (DPIV) and Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence (PLIF). The hardware components for the system are described in this paper. It was found that the simultaneous measurements are possible under appropriate combination of the amount of the two different tracers. For verification purposes, the system was used to measure the characteristics of a round jet discharging into stagnant environment. Comparison between the measurement results and the large body of existing information for pure jets is satisfactory.
