Abstract

A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code, FLUENT v4.4, using Volume of Fluid (VoF), SPECIES and k-ε turbulence models was used to investigate the development of an entrapped saline wedge. Initially a stratified flow situation exists of fresh water overlying a denser saline layer. The development of the wedge and an interfacial mixing layer between the stratified fresh and saline water was monitored and compared with experimental results.
