A relationship between spray quantity above white caps and wind shear stress
Abstract
Spray quantity generated when a strong wind blows over white caps has been investigated experimentally by using a wind-wave tank. It depends strongly on the friction velocity on the water surface and the settling velocity of spray. An empirical curve is obtained by examining the dependence of the drag coefficient on the wind-wave factor. The graphic data processing of spray diameters shows that the settling velocity decreases linearly with height. The vertical profiles of spray concentration are expressed universally by using these results.
