A post audit of nutrient reductions in two estuaries
Abstract
Significant reductions of nutrient loads from point sources have taken place in the Chesapeake Bay region during the past two decades. Both nutrient loading rates from the point sources and the response in the receiving water have been monitored closely, accumulating a significant amount of data. Two estuaries tributary to the Bay which have the most nutrient reduction among the major tributaries are the focus of this study. Water quality data are first reviewed and analyzed. Water quality models are then used to quantify the response in a post audit effort.
