Multi-hazard analysis of utility lifelines
Abstract
The performance of electric utility systems during winter storms and other extreme wind events is a concern for many locations in the US. It is anticipated that the recent deregulation of the utility system within the US will result in greater public scrutiny of the reliability of service to customers, both residential and industrial, because the generation and delivery of power will be separately managed. In our paper, we analyze a distribution system for an urban region during winter storms. Our preliminary conclusions suggest that the performance of the system is affected by the combined hazards of ice, snow and wind.
