Observational and numerical studies of winter time urban boundary layer
Abstract
Observational analyses and numerical simulation were carried out to study the characteristics of the winter nocturnal boundary layer of a large city. The observation showed that with light wind the ground inversion in the early morning in urban area was about 200m deep. The heat island circulation, caused mainly by anthropogenic heating, induced reverse flow at the downwind part of the city. A shallow internal boundary layer with depth of 50–80m developed from the fringe of the city. These features described above were well simulated by the numerical model.
