Wind loads and architectural design — Application to tropical cyclonic dwelling
Abstract
The extreme climatic conditions constraints joined to a social and cultural context, where self-building is seen as a necessity, ask the question of an accommodation raised without practical building methods knowledge, that however resists to cyclonic forces. The proposed solutions are based on aerodynamic principles that decrease loads and then reduce strains. Tests in wind tunnel have confirmed the efficiency of the proposed systems. As a practical application, a housing concept is presented in kit form.
