Mine subsidence control in P.R. China: Engineering practice
Abstract
Underground coal mining causes twenty thousand hm2 of land to subside annually, which affects a quarter of million of Chinese farmers. This paper reviews the methods to predict subsidence and measures to reduce and mitigate the damage. The profile functions, influence functions and numerical models are developed and improved with acceptable accuracy. The control approaches including coal pillars, backfilling of gobs, ground grouting etc. have been utilized. The future trends are to take a comprehensive approach to extract as much coal as possible within the environmental acceptable extent.
