An expert system for real time predicting the concentration of combustion product in mine ventilation network

Expert systems have applications in many areas. An expert system for predicting the concentration of combustion products in mine ventilation networks has been developed to take advantage of expert systems over conventional simulation programs. With this expert system, a variety of simulation and prediction scenarios can be evaluated. It is then possible to see for example which junctions have critical concentrations at particular times. The validity of the application written in Prolog has been verified by comparing the junction concentration results with those obtained from a widely used Fortran program. Compared to the Fortran based application, the Prolog application is superior in its readability, ease of implementation and its user-friendly interface.
