Abstract

In China heavy loss of lives and coal resources result from spontaneous coal combustion. The project, ‘Coal fire Fighting and Monitoring System in China’, was undertaken to counteract this. It was developed in Rujigou coalfield, the most representative coalfield in the north of China. Performed by BRSC (China), EARS, ITC, and NRTG (Netherlands), the project was focused on a dynamic monitoring and operational ability of fire extinguishing thus to provide technically feasible system for environmental restoration and management. The study combines detective approaches, data management and analysis methods with the monitoring system and uses 3-D logical concepts and interpreting methods. GIS and 3D-visualization software support data management and dynamically show visual effects of the fire control strategy.
