Extinguishing spontaneous combustion in coal seam with heat-resistant, rich-water gel
Abstract
The injection technique of heat-resistant, rich-water gel (HRRWG) is successfully employed to extinguish spontaneous combustion in coal seam. HRRWG is gelatinated with primary material (PM), accelerant, hardener and water in proportion. Its properties prevent and extinguish spontaneous combustion. Based on previous applications of this technique a simple technology for coal fire extinguishing was developed. The technique of HRRWG has been employed in 26 nation-owned coal mines in 16 Mining Administrations and other 8 local coal mines in China. It had helped to extinguish 67 fires by the end of 1998. Now, the technique of fire extinguishing with HRRWG is one of the primary means to fight spontaneous combustion in coal seam.
