Abstract

This paper gives a brief introduction of recent advances in the development of the VirtuoBIast technology — a new, automated and highly interactive 3D data acquisition system which is being developed by CSIRO Exploration & Mining. The VirtuoBIast technology weaves together three advanced technologies — close-range digital terrestrial photogrammetry, oblique or super high-speed stereo imaging, and temporal-spatial image matching technique. The VirtuoBIast technology is specifically developed for automated 3D measurement of blasting through rapid collection, processing, analysis and visualisation of 3D data related to blasting. Some results from the field trials have demonstrated the potential of the technology to perform pre-blast 3D rock surface mapping, post-blast 3D performance measurement and temporal-spatial modelling of the dynamic blasting process.
