Optimal sample spacing for gas content measurement in a coal seam: A statistical approach
Abstract
This paper studies the optimisation of sampling space for gas content measurements in a coal seam. The methodology developed is based upon establishing the sample variograms and block krigging by using exploration data on gas content and determining the influence area of each sample by using ranges of the variograms. By optimising sampling configurations, sample spacing has increased from between 70 to 170 m to 300 m, hence to minimise the effect of sampling practice on mine production.
