Abstract

On the basis of drawing the Geological Map of Coalbed Gas in China with scale at 1:2,000,000, the regional distribution features of Carboniferous-Permian coalbed gas in China was studied using the theory of plate tectonics. During the stable development of the North China and South China plate, the Carboniferous-Permian coals were extensively deposited. Due to the high coalification degree with geothermal and later telemagmatic metamorphism in neotectonic epoch, the forming conditions of the gas from Carboniferous-Permian coals are superior to those from other age coals .This has important influence on the distribution of high gas grade coalfields. During the active development of the plates, the compressive deformation belts, folds and thrusting nappes caused by plate movement also affects the distribution of coalbed gas. More importantly, the composite compressive belts caused by the old plate and modern plate movement are dangerous districts for coal-gas outburst and unfavorable areas for gas exploitation. On the contrary, in the pull-apart basins, the gas content is very low due to the release of coalbed gas.
