Oil derived from the Jurassic coal measures in the Junggar and Turpan-Hami basins
Abstract
In this paper, the Early and Middle Jurassic terrestrial oil-related coal measures in the Junggar and Turpan-Hami basins, NW China, are subject detailed studies of their sedimentology, organic petrology and geochemistry properties. The study concluded that: 1) the main stage for oil generation occurred earl and the oil is mainly generated from fluorescent desmocollinite (desmocollinite B), bituminite, cutinite and su-berinite of the source rock; 2) the oil-generating models of some individual macérais and oil expulsion experiment of vitrain sample are given; 3) the new organic petrological oil-source correlation techniques using laser-induced fluorescence, CLSM (Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope) and TEM (Transmission Electron Microscope) parameters for oil-source correlation are adopted; and 4) the sedimentary organic facies have been established with sedimentary, organic petrological and organic geochemical parameters, and it is suggested that the running water swamp/marsh organic facies is best responsible for coal measures-related oil.
