Abstract

The underground trials have shown that use of impact mining machine increases fraction of lump sized coal, reduces dust generation, slows gas release rate and reduces the energy used in the process of mining. The coal and rock impact mining equipment was developed by the authors to study the mechanism of coal breaking by impact. Propagation of impact induced stress in coal mass, and some interrelated parameters of impact and split have been analyzed in the paper. Selected mechanical and breaking characteristics of coal mass under impact are analyzed and influence of discontinuities in coal mass on effectiveness of breaking is analyzed.
