Abstract

The relationships between infrared radiation and rock stress are stated, and the recent research results are presented. Experimental study indicates that coal and sandstone under load have three types of infrared thermal images features, three types of infrared radiation temperature features, as well as the infrared forewarning messages of samples’ failure. It was found that the infrared detection is comparable with acoustic emission detection and electrical resistance detection. Stress of around 0.79 σ c could be taken as the dangerous level warning zone both of ground control and ground-pressure disasters.
