CATSBY signal aided boring – Sydney experimentation
Abstract
For tunnel boring machines (TBM) in soft soils, the Bouygues’ Signal Aided Boring concept (CATSBY system, for Creusement Assisté par Traitement du Signal – BouYgues) was developed based on back analyses of data from several TBMs. The Sydney Airport Link was the first application of this concept as a prototype. This paper describes the basic principles of the system, its main features and the first conclusions which may be drawn from this experience.
