Abstract

Lattice towers made of hot rolled steel angle sections are used to support transmission lines and radio antenna. The legs of these towers are usually strengthened by retrofitting extra parallel bracing members. This paper presents a numerical method for predicting the failure load of single and compound angle sections used in steel towers considering second order and inelasticity effects. Predictions from the method are compared with limited laboratory results.
