Hydraulic design of on stream floodplain storages
Abstract
Floodplain storages are a rather widespread structural measure to control floods. In fact, floodplain storage of suitable volume allows a remarkable attenuation of peak flood discharge, protecting from inundation floodplains, often intensely urbanized, against an environmental and economic impact generally less than that due to other types of structural measures. The suitable storage volume can be achieved by means of on stream floodplains storages, situated along the river, or off stream storages, located outside the river bed.
