Abstract

The abundance of hydrological resources of Veneto (springs, groundwater, rivers, lakes) and their widespread distribution over the regional territory has resulted in an almost spontaneous organisation of the water supply characterised by small and medium piped water supply systems, only few of which having a minimum acceptable size from an operational point of view. (National) Law n. 36, dated 5 January 1994 on water resources (‘Disposizioni in materia di risorse idriche’) set start to a complex and well-organised process aimed at a territorial and functional reshuffle of the ‘Integrated Water System’ that is to say of all the public services concerning non-industrial use of water: water collection, transport and distribution; sewage and treatment of waste water.
