Hydraulic restoration of the Blesbokspruit wetland to equilibrium morphological conditions
Abstract
The Blesbokspruit wetland, South Africa, has in recent years undergone significant ecological changes from the historic typical highveld stream and associated wet meadow wetland to the current permanent wetland dominated by reeds. A portion of the Blesbokspruit wetland (1850 ha) was afforded international importance when it was officially designated as a Ramsar site in 1986 under the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl habitat.
