Predicting the behaviour of pool-riffle sequences in natural rivers A conceptual approach
Abstract
Pool-riffle sequences (PRS’s) provide habitat for aquatic life in many natural streams, particularly those with gravel beds. Riffles are zones of fast, shallow flow over the crest and the downstream face of large-scale, periodic, transverse bedforms. Pools are zones of slow, deep flow between the bedforms.
