Hydraulic investigations in the design of an eco-friendly method of erosion control under the action of waves and currents
Abstract
Seabed vegetation has long been recognised as a natural breakwater system by effectively reducing the bed shear stresses exerted by currents and waves thus retaining sediments along the coast. The concept of an eco-engineering approach has thus provided the development and fabrication of an artificial seagrass structure that would simulate the hydrodynamic characteristics of its natural species. This underwater structure will thus provide an innovative technique to protect ecological sensitive estuaries and a remedial solution for erosion and scour problems.
