Restraining weirs system
Abstract
In conditions of flood the streams can transport to valley not only notable quantity of fine material but also vegetation (for example trunks) and rocks. All this can create the conditions for the ‘over-silting’ of the river bed and for the obstruction of peculiar fluvial sections, for instance in correspondence of crossing. It bears, therefore, the need to stop the outflow of an important part of the sediment transport or, however, to differ in the time the quantity of material carried from the river.
