Abstract

Latin America faces significant challenges at the beginning of the new millenium. Among them is the fact that large increases in population and economic development have put more strains in the supply of water resources, both in quantity and quality. During the last decade several catastrophes have had a tremendous impact in the development of Latin America, the Mitch hurricane being one example.
