Abstract

The problem of water sources sustainable usage is related to global changes and long-time development. However, the global sustainability can be reached by sustainability achieving in smaller territories. A state seems to be the basic unit under present conditions and world order. These basic units will be enlarged by supranational organizations (e.g. European Union) in the future where the members will be co-operating not only on the field of water management. Discrepancy between basin borders and administrative borders leads to problems connected with definition of relationships and competencies in such large territories. The space scales suitable definition of investigated systems then become one of the most important questions within the water and wastewater management. The approach of transfer of global principles to local scale (GLA) allows determining major problems in areas investigated and established linkages to their causes. The regional scale and local scale solution methodologies are based on combination of monitoring and modeling. Application of that methodology represents one of the basic aims of the project held in Czech Technical University in co-operation with the EAWAG.
