Abstract

Satellite oceanography has, in many ways, revolutionized our understanding of the complex interplay between the various scales of motion in the oceans. With the advent of new satellites and even more accurate and versatile sensors, satellite-derived data products will play an increasingly important role in marine research. New developments will assist the marine biologist as well as the physical oceanographer in understanding the dynamics of ocean circulation, mixing processes, upwelling systems, wave generation, plankton blooms and fish distributions.
