Preamble
Abstract
A sedimentary succession is the result of sediment accumulation on the upper surface of the earth’s crust during a geologically significant time interval under the influence of tectonism, eustasy and climate. Sediments preferentially accumulate in a geographic domain where there is supply of sediments via different earth-surface depositional processes. The accumulated sediment pile would have a potential for preservation to result in a sedimentary succession if the area undergoes tectonic subsidence during sedimentation. The site of sediment accumulation and preservation is known as a sedimentary basin, which is represented in the geological record as a sedimentary succession.
