Abstract

The paper presents briefly the details of an investigation carried out for solving the real life ventilation problem of Jamadoba colliery of Tata Iron Steel Company Limited (TISCO). The ventilation system of the mine is fairly complex having more than 210 branches in the network. The field and computer simulation studies were carried out and the recommendations for improvement of ventilation system were suggested to the mine management. These were mainly shifting of the booster, changing the blade angle of the main fan, pressure balancing in the fire area present in the circuit etc. Recommendations were implemented by the management and desired results were achieved. The dry and wet bulb temperatures in the working faces were brought down from 37 o C and 36.5°C to 3O o C and 28.5 o C respectively. The quantity flow in the last ventilation connection could be improved to 28 m 3 /s.
