Abstract

Mining is often cursed for polluting environment. Dust on haul road due to movement of dumpers is neither unnatural nor uncommon. Application of water at frequent interval remains, by far, the most practical solution for control of dust on haul road. Water application is an expensive process. Few wetting agents and surfactants have been tried with varying degree of success but they lack full acceptability of the industry. As an improvement in this direction, a new method has been discussed in the paper. The method is basically in a conceptual stage and is chemico-mechanical in nature. This will significantly reduce the chemical consumption hence reduction in recurring cost and possible environmental degradation.
