Abstract

Conveyor belts and wood materials are some of the main reasons which cause fires in mines. In order to evaluate the fire hazard of conveyor belts and wood materials, several kinds of conveyor belts and wood used in China are tested with a cone calorimeter complying with ISO 5660 and ASTM E1354 standards. Mass loss rate (MLR) and heat release rate (HRR) of conveyor belts and wood materials, and their relationships are discussed in this article. Test results show that MLR and HRR of conveyor belts are less and greater than that of wood respectively. For these materials, HRR can be expressed as a quadratic polynomial of MLR.
