Abstract

Research work on the mechanism of throttling of roadway fire has been carried out with the help of thermal drag theory of thermofluidics. The results obtained show that the thermal drag occurring due to fires is the main factor causing reduction in ventilation in a fire-affected roadway. Further researches and analyses clearly indicate relationships between parameters such as fire size, initial stagnation enthalpy, smoke quantity produced during fires and fire throttling. The existence of thermal drag in fire zones and its effects on fire throttling are verified by the experimental results conducted in a full-scale fire gallery.
