Abstract

A handy objective model for estimation of spontaneous fire risk potential of underground panels in bord and pillar method of mining is presented in this paper. It describes the fire risk indexing technique applied to each of the mining parameters that can influence underground fire and finally it estimates the overall fire risk potential of the concerned panel. The model is tested with field data collected from different collieries spreading across the country and also with laboratory data for critical assessment of fitness of the model. Since the model is too big for presentation in a single paper, it is presented in a shortened form.
