Abstract

The paper presents a study carried out by Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, for solving the real life ventilation problem in Balaghat mine of Manganese Ore (India) Limited. In order to solve this problem, pressure and quantity surveys were carried out for ascertaining the resistance of different branches of the network and computer simulation studies were conducted to find out the solution for both short and long term improvements in the ventilation system. The recommendations for short term improvement in the system were partially implemented and subsequently a quantity survey was carried out to ascertain the actual improvement in the system. It has been observed that there is improvement of 29.6-109.7% in the air quantity flowing through main production levels of the ventilation system. The recommendations for long term improvement in the system are being implemented.
