Abstract

Plate tectonics has been used for the past about 34 years to try to understand different aspects of the history of evolution of the earth’s continents and oceans. Many observations on the surface of the earth have been very elegantly explained by this paradigm. That the “plates” constituting the lithosphere have been moving apart, colliding, and moving past each other over a long period of time is now accepted by all.
