Abstract

To judge the conformity of a material to a given set of specifications, the deciding authority bases its judgement on the data constituted essentially by results of measurements and tests which, for their part, suffer from an inherent uncertainty that is most often left unstated. One factor behind this drawback derives from the measurement or test proper, while another, no less significant, is the representativeness of the test sample.
